Duckish-inspired nail art: colourblock and chevrons

I loved the colourful, graphic patterns on the Duckish skin care packaging, so you know what that means...

Inspired nail art time! I picked the pattern in Duckish's lavender-scented products because I knew I had just the shades to fit the bill: Essie Chills and Thrills, Essie I'm Addicted, and Sephora Formula X in Perfection.

Here's a closer look at the lavender pattern: the chevron is made from a bright blue zigzag underneath a dark brown zigzag. For some reason, I struggled a lot with wrapping my head around executing the offset chevron look.

First, I painted two coats of Sephora Formula X White Matter, which is one of my favourite white polishes--the brush is excellent and the consistency is very smooth, so no streaks or dragging. Next I painted the zigzag lines in Essie I'm Addicted. This shade is a little bit sheer, so I had to paint over the same lines a second time for more opacity. After that, I painted slightly offset zigzag lines over the bright blue in Sephora Formula X Perfection (the website describes it as "smoky violet"; it's not, it's brown.)

Lastly, I used Essie Chills and Thrills for the colourblocked areas. Originally, I planned to get a super crisp and straight colourblock by laying down some tape, but I realized that because I used a peel-off base coat underneath, I risked undoing all my hard work if the tape accidentally lifted everything underneath! Doh, time to hand paint. I painted diagonal lines with a thin striping brush for the colourblock, and filled it in with a larger brush. Although it looks quite blue in the photos, Chills and Thrills is actually a dusty blurple and a very close match to the colour in the Duckish packaging. This shade is also a bit sheer, so at certain angles you can see the zigzag pattern underneath peek through.

Close up, it looks a bit messy :(  It looks kind of like it was drawn on with markers; I wish it was a little bit more crisp. If I can find just the right chevron stamping plate, I would love to tackle this again. It'll take just a fraction of the time, because I won't be hunched over hand painting zigzag lines!

I also loved the pattern for pink grapefruit, but tbh the pattern seemed like it'd be a headache to do 9___9  As always, even though the results weren't as clean as I would have liked, it was a good challenge! Which Duckish pattern would you want to wear on your nails?
